About HIEA Funds

The purpose of these funds is to provide the support necessary to grow the horse industry in Texas. Each year since 2019 up to 25 million from sales tax on purchased horse-related items (tack, barn supplies etc.) is used for the HIEA funds.

Legislatively, 70% of this money goes to support horse racing and purse structure. The remaining 30% is used by each of the racing breed associations to grow their individual breed industries.

The Texas Thoroughbred Association would like to thank Gov. Greg Abbott to recognizing the importance of the horse industry to the Texas Economy and to Texas Agriculture.

The Texas Thoroughbred Association uses this money to support a variety of initiatives to encourage growth in the Thoroughbred industry.
