About the Internship Program

The Texas Thoroughbred Association is pleased to offer a sales internship program.  The program is open to college students interested in learning more about job opportunities in the Thoroughbred industry.  During the internship, students meet with a variety of Thoroughbred professionals including consignors, veterinarians, racing commission stewards, director of racing, vice president of track operations, auctioneers, repository personnel and more.  We are proud of our interns; some have been accepted into veterinary school; others have found jobs in the Thoroughbred industry thanks to the contacts they made with this internship.  To apply for an internship position, please complete the application.  The program is limited to six interns per sale.

Internship Application

The Texas Thoroughbred Association holds two horse auction sales a year in the Sale Pavilion at Lone Star Park in Grand Prairie. There is a two-year-olds in-training sale in early April and a yearling sale held in late August. This is an opportunity to learn about planning and participating in sales from the perspectives of the Sales Company, consignors and buyers. You will see firsthand how consignors prepare and show horses leading up to the sale, how the repository works, the importance of the breeze show, bidding online and in-person, what happens in the sale office each day and more. Interns will be asked to assist staff as needed. Housing will be provided.
