Texas Stallion Stakes Series

The TSSS schedule for foals of kicks off at Lone Star Park with 2-year-olds going 5 furlongs. The series moves on to Sam Houston Race in January with divisions for 3-year-olds going 5 1/2 furlongs and later in the spring, divisions for 3-year-olds going 6 furlongs.

About the Races

The Texas Stallion Stakes Series features three sets of races, each split into two divisions (colts/geldings and fillies) for a purse of $75,000 per division. Each division has been named after a great Texas horse of the past.

Eligibility

Only progeny of nominated Texas stallions are eligible to be nominated to the TSSS, but the foals may be foaled outside of Texas.

Stallions can be nominated to the TSSS with a payment of their advertised stud fee or $1,500, whichever amount is greater.

Nominating a Foal

Foals must be nominated to participate in the TSSS: $100 by Dec. 31 of the weanling year, $500 by Dec. 31 of the yearling year, or $5,000 if nominated after passing through the TTA Sales ring by their 2-year-old year. No nominations are accepted after that. Once nominated, each race requires a $250 entry fee and $500 start fee, with no late or supplemental entries.

Any foal of 2024 that passes thorough the ring in either the 2025 Texas Summer Yearling Sale or is consigned to and subsequently passes through the ring at the 2026 Texas 2-Year-Old In Training Sale at Lone Star Park will become eligible for the appropriate division of the 2026 Texas Thoroughbred Futurity and the 2027 Texas Thoroughbred Derby or Oaks.
